Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is bullying on the internet using electronic technology. Examples of cyberbullying are insults and rumors sent through text messages or emails, posted on social networking sites, and also embarassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles. Kids who are cyberbullied are more likely to use alcohol and drugs, skip school, lower self-esteem and even commit a suicide. It is more difficult for parents to check on their kids now since teens tend to keep things to themselves and rather express themselves and tell others online through social network, which poses higher risk of cyberbullying.
As stated in the article "Girl's Suicide Points to Rise in Apps Used by Cyberbullies", "“It’s a whole new culture, and the thing is that as adults, we don’t know anything about it because it’s changing every single day,” said Denise Marzullo, the chief executive of Mental Health America of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville, who works with the schools there on bullying issues."

AI and Robotics

I think robots can do most things that humans do and maybe even more efficient. However, robots are set up to perform tasks only in one way. Many tasks require not only to get the job done quickly and efficiently but also skills, experience and emotions put into it. The fact that so many things are done by machines now, people actually prefer to have handmade materials because human actually put thoughts into making it. Humans do get tired and make mistakes but errors can also have technological errors. When errors are made by humans, at least there will be someone to take responsibility for the errors made but when robots make errors, who will be blamed? The robots or the people who create them? Humans should also be responsible for the errors that occur in robots because they are created by humans.
As stated in the article “Should we put robots on trial?” “With most robot-like machines that exist today, any serious problems can be easily traced back to a human somewhere, whether because the machine was used carelessly or because it was intentionally programmed to do harm.”

Legal and Ethical Issues

Creative Commons is a nonprofit oganization that allows you to share and express your creativity and knowledge through legal tools. Whatever that is created on Creative Commons is not completely copyright, you may modify the copyright term til it suits your needs. You may allow your work to be shared and used or on private.
The word "free" in this case could have many definitions depending on how you look at it. "free" information could mean: no financial cost, the right to share and receive information and the right of free speech.Whether or not if information should be free is a controversial topic among the public. It may be useful and also be harmful. Personal & business' information should definitely not be free. These information may be include social security, financial;credit card infomation, tax & bills and medical records. However, information such as journal articles, news, tv and music may be free because the fact that it is not free, a lot of people rather try to get these information illegally by hacking and stealing. On the other hand, I also support the article "Open source textbook program expanding in coming months", open source book may be alot more helpful with updated information from different sources than traditional textbook. Traditional textbook must be edit and updated to new edition from time to time which cost time and money. As stated from the article, "Deciding to pursue open source textbooks and materials gives the district an opportunity to compile a custom-made text, rather than purchasing traditional textbooks that can quickly become outdated, depending upon the subject."

however, it may be risky since it is copyright free, it might violate the law of ethics, information may be stolen and use by others as their own.

Security and Privacy

Security and Privacy is one of the biggest concerns on the Internet nowadays.Internet users are exposed to many problems being on the web; hacking in password, social security number, credit & personal information, and exposure to inappropriate content, harassment etc...Many tasks may be done through the Internet at the tip of a finger; such as sharing sensitive personal and financial information, these informations can easily be hacked and stolen. Security and privacy on the internet does not only pose risks to adults but also to children. Internet is one of the biggest concerns that parents and educators have for their kids. Youths are easily influenced not only by their peers but mainly by the Internet. As mentioned in the article, The Conundrum of Visibility: Youth Safety and the Internet, " For many youth, technology is part of their everyday lives, and must be examined in that context. The key to addressing online safety is to take a
few steps back and make sense of the lives of youth, the risks and dangers they face, and
the personal, social, and cultural logic behind their practices."

World Wide Web

World Wide Web will continue to expand in the future. There are so many companies out there competing among each other, hence, contributing better services and advanced technologies to us while expanding the World Wide Web. The "cloud" is referred to as a network of servers; the competitive companies, each server has a different function in providing different services. In the article "Microsoft CEO to Focus on Mobile, Cloud Technology", Gates said "There's a challenge in mobile computing. There's an opportunity in the cloud".

Networks and Communication

Synchronous & asynchronous communications are useful in different ways depending on the time and place. Synchronous communications allow a real time communication at the same time but in a different place. It helps people engage instantly at the same time point. Synchronous communications may be useful for discussion, sharing presentation and information, and more in-depth, interactive conversations. Asynchronous communications on the other hand, allow communications at any time and place over a long period of time. It allows people to communicate conveniently at their own schedule and different time zones. Asynchronous communications may be useful for sharing comments & ideas such as blogs, one to one or one to many communications such as emails/text and provide resources and informations.

Hello!

My name is Lien Dip. I personally think that many students have anxiety over an open classroom discussion. Some students tend to get nervous to participate in class. Blogs and Twitter is a great way to have an open discussion where students can participate, post their own opinions and start conversations with classmates and professors. In a classroom where questions regarding yes or no answers are asked, there is often conformity occurring, which students will agree with the majority instead of going with their own opinion. As mentioned in the article " 60 ways to use Twitter in the classroom by category", "Social media offers some great opportunities for learning in the classroom, bringing together the ability to collaborate, access worldwide resources, and find new and interesting ways to communicate in one easily accessible place."
